Learning management system review compiling feedback, plans vendor visits in spring
More than 1,500 faculty, staff and students have provided feedback this fall as part of the Learning Management System review, which is conducting a systemwide assessment of Purdue’s needs in order to find the best learning management solution.
Now, team members are working to compile that feedback into a comprehensive report, which will be used to help guide the search for a new learning management system.
“The response we’ve received throughout this process has been incredibly beneficial, and we’re very thankful for the amount of time and information that has been provided,” says Jenna Rickus, associate vice provost for teaching and learning and the chair of the review’s steering committee. “I think we were able to get a comprehensive view of the University’s needs and a lot of ideas about what people want in a new LMS.”
Over the course of the semester, listening sessions were held on the West Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses, as well as virtually for faculty and students of Purdue Global. More than 1,500 faculty, staff and students provided feedback via an online survey.
Common feedback received throughout the semester has included a desire for such features as:
- The ability to ingest content from previously created Blackboard Learn courses
- Easy transition from the old system to the new
- Collaboration workspaces
- Mobile device compatibility
- Easy to use and intuitive interface
- Easier acceptance and implementation of third-party tools
Teams of faculty, staff and students on each of the campuses are now working to condense the feedback into a report that will identify key priorities for and features in a new learning management system – as well as establish a request for proposals to invite potential vendors to campus for meetings, most likely to be scheduled in March.
